MD HQL
5-hr comprehensive class that covers all aspects of pistol ownership and operation, specifically tailored to meet the requirements of MD HQL. This course is perfect for beginners looking to learn the fundamentals of safe and responsible pistol ownership.
MD CCW
This is a 16-hr course that meets MD state requirements to obtain your CCW. You will learn the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense. This course will also qualify you for MD HQL, AZ, FL, VA, and PA CCW permits at no additional cost!

FAQ
Is prior experience or a permit needed to attend a class?
No experience or permits are necessary for most of our courses. In fact, we welcome those just starting out on this journey. People of all experience levels are welcome at all events unless otherwise specified in the course description.
Do I need to have/purchase a firearm to take the class?
No, we will have firearms available to use if needed. All ammo will be provided if one of our firearms are being used. If you choose to bring your own firearm and ammo please leave all ammo in your vehicle as there is NO LIVE AMMUNITION IN THE CLASSROOM.
What is the difference between a HQL and CCW?
- HQL (Handgun Qualification License)
- Allows you to purchase, rent, or receive a handgun in Maryland. It does not allow carrying.
- 4‑hour safety course + live‑fire.
- CCW / Wear & Carry Permit
- Allows you to carry a handgun (concealed) on your person or in a vehicle.
- 16 hours for new applicants, 8 hours for renewals. Must include live‑fire qualification
What is your refund/cancelation policy?
Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds at this time but will allow you to reschedule the class at no additional cost.
How old do I have to be in order to attend a class?
Due to NRA requirements and MD state regulations you must be 21 yrs old or older to attend one of our course outside of the Refuse to Be a Victim and Gun Safety Seminar which would be appropriate for anyone 13yrs old and up.
What should I wear/bring to class?
- What to wear
- We recommend that you wear closed toe shoes
- No low cut shirts for the live fire portion of class- brass flies and is hot
- What to bring
- Notebook to take notes if desired
- Lunch/snacks
- Eye and ear protection if you have them. This will be available if you do not already own
- Sturdy belt for CCW class as we will be drawing from holster
- If bringing your own firearm please make sure you have either a Kydex or lock leather strong sided holster, OWB recommended but not required
- Concealment garment for CCW class
